MTM Studio Net

Hi,
This is not a review but a request for forum users opinions/reviews on the several iteration of the Prophet :).

Yesterday Dave Smiths new Prophet 8 was released

I have toyed with the idea to budget for a real analogue instrument to be part of my set up, I have been listening to demos of the Moog Little Phatty and the Minimoog ‘ Voyager’, reading reviews etc… Too far from any shop to actually go and try one.

So, my impression of these instruments so far has purely been based on what I could read and hear off the Internet.
I feel like the new Prophet 8 is right at the top of my real analogue instrument kit list. This is not only for the price, it is an 8 voices synth as opposed to a monophonic Moog, but for the actual sound.
There are sound samples here

The one other contender for me is the Alesis Andromeda, I wrote something about it recently, here in my blog (feel free to comment on the Andromeda on my blog):

Plenty of Prophets :)

Does any of us here own any of the Prophets above, maybe more than one and could share opinions and even a mini reviews, especially comparisons about which one delivers the best sound for a specific task you use them for?

What kind of set up do you have now ?

To me it seems like if you get a good "real" (as in hardware) instrument you can't really lose your money.

This is of course a general assumtion but if we just watch the price development over the last 30 years and we all know for a fact that these new synths (just like the old ones) won't be made forever...

I have no set up right now. An oldish PC and I have been downloading some free software or trial software recently like Reaper and free plugins.

I'm hoping to start buying some kit soon, certain things are moving slow so I can't buy anything yet. And the idea of owning a real analogue synth appeals to me because the rest will very probably be all 'in-the-box' software based for space and financial reasons. A real analogue instruments may add not only a touch of depth to the sound but also the enjoyable experience of manipluating sound with knobs all there instead using a mouse
