MTM Studio Net

Greets to all here at StudioNet. I'm the most recent addition at MTM towers and my main task is compiling content for the cover disc. Over the coming months I'll be looking to get feedback from StudioNet members on ways in which we can improve the DVD... But first...

I'd like to draw peoples attention to the competition that myself and TC 'tried' to get going before Christmas. The samples were there... you lot had your christmas break... but no-one has yet submitted any tracks!

So I'm here to get the ball rolling. You can read the rules and download the samples for the remix here;

http://www.mtmstudionet.com/forum/topics/1st-sample-pack-for-the-mtm

And if you check out my page, I've done a little entry myself (obviously not to win!). Thrown together in a couple of hours using Logic's EXS sampler and some plug-ins.

IF YOU THINK YOU CAN DO BETTER THEN GET ON THE CASE! We'd like to inspire some friendly competition. Some of you might not be that excited about winning a sample pack, so to make it a bit more interesting I've hand picked a selection from which you can pick two - then at least you can select something relevant to your music!

1. Carnival Drums - The Spirit Of Brazil (£78.25) - ZeroG
2. Jacked Out Future House - Joey Youngman (£39.95) - LoopMasters
3. Dubstep Plates (£19.57) - Digital Redux
4. Electrotech (£19.57) - Digital Redux
5. Jazz Drums (£48.89) - BigFishAudio
6. Retro Keyboards (£51.38, requires ilok) - UltimateSoundBank
7. 60s A Gogo (£67.53) - Ueberschall
8. Pro-Sessions Producer Series - Orchestral Brass (£68.51) - Sonic Implants
9. Hip-Hop Philosophy (£29.31) & Hip-Hop High (£29.31) - BigFishAudio

We'll move the deadline back to the 31st of January (although this may change depending on the amount of interest).

It's 2009 now... time to get on it - SHOW US WHAT YOU'VE GOT!

Alex.

Hi Alex, sorry i have not had time previously,i also found the last instructions a bit Confusing, so did not proceed to have a go, i think it was something about compilation so many samples of your own etc,as far as i could make out.
But now the samples are here, i will take a look this eve and give it a whirl tomorrow and see what i can come up with by monday.

Thanks for getting involved Alex,
and thanks TC

I would like to point out that I did put together a song from those samples, its Samplemix1 on my page. It wasn't for the competition but I did use the samples. I'll have to try and figure out a 1 minute version!

Just spent an hour and its nearly in order already, just going to fine tune it next time i have some more time,

I take it its alright to manipulate the audio in any way, i.e Convert some parts to Midi add patten to sampler so i can Drop back in sample sounds, bare in mind, i have kept it to what midi i extracted from the existing audio samples, and have only edited and stretched the midi data, but have not written any extra data, so its still in keeping with what this Project is about.

I look forward to hearing The other Entries.

Hey folks,

Just to confirm... you'll want to download the file;

"octobersamplepack.zip"

at the bottom of this page;

http://www.mtmstudionet.com/forum/topics/1st-sample-pack-for-the-mtm

And use ONLY the samples included there, but you can do anything you like to them... including outrageous MIDI manipulation! The original idea was that we would take submissions for member created samples (and have a separate deadline for that) then build a pack for people to remix. The track should be 1 MINUTE LONG... Have fun spending time on details rather than length.

With regards the cover disc, there's lots of useful things hidden away - Even if you only learn 2 new things from watching a tutorial video it's still worth it! and on the next disc look out for some crackin' acoustic motown funk breaks and a selection of Kontakt instruments taken from Sample Logic's 'Synergy'. But with the demos... yup I agree it's annoying having to register on-line but unfortunately there's nothing we can do about that. Best thing is if I start up a new thread and get people's ideas on the DVD, but rest assured - it's getting better each month!

Right you lot... let's hear some tracks!

I used to use the DVDs a lot, I had no other software or samples! I used a demo of Live 6 until 7 came out, used a demo of that for a few months (save disabled, oh the workarounds I had!) and eventually went and got it. I still use my demo of Rob Papen's Predator, great synth. But as time has gone on and I've gotten more sure of what I want and need, I've used them less and less.

I'll have a track hopefully a little later today, I'll get working on it soon. All very confusing around here isn't it?!

I'm going to give this a bash. Just been thru the samples and some of them are itchin to be diced up, it might sound a bit pony but hey...

Lets do this.

Like you say cREASE its a matter of slicing and dicing, i am also shoving most parts back to midi, and i am just using grains of the audio to make new sound, this way i can mold it, not to say that i will be any good at it, but it makes for good practice, i am also using this time to experiment more so, with the nitty gritty that normally i would not go so into depth with, i am quite enjoying it. learnt a few good tricks too.

I've got some time at the mo for a crack at this, so count me in. Extreme manipulation of loops is my bread and butter. Not sure about the 1-minute restriction, though. That's tough. Pistols at dawn, anyone? :-)

Pistols at dawn, anyone? yes i am up for the challenge,

allthough ask me again later, we will have to see how it goes today, i may be running away, once i have destroyed what had started out sounding half cool this morning, lol.

Damn, busy with work and family and that audio interface that still doesn't work (which means I can't make use of my monitors!).
Well, in the next few days I should be able to find time and mash something up through my old PC desktop speakers :) Just for the hell of it, it is all about having fun!
