This would depend really on what the use will be. Will it be just for audio or will it be for home/office work as well? The specs seem good but theres no info on the mobo. Availability of upgrade RAM may be an issue. 2 pci slots may limit you som...

Yeah its a shame, they've merged with Last.fm now. I don't use last.fm at all though and I have no plans to start.

It doesn't all sound terrible mate! You're just being a pessimist. I point you towards Bon Iver's wonderful "For Emma, Forever Ago" as a truly fantastic example. Or indeed, Mr Duke Special's first major album, the name of which escapes me.

Well again, the musical content will affect that greatly and Duke's performance (Was it just Duke himself or full band incidently?) would no doubt have been quite dynamic in and of itself. Listening to his records, they are not involved in this "l...

Update!

Ok in the last while I haven't been very active around here but thats because I started a band and have been writing like crazy. Today we start recording in my home studio. I've been working on it since Christmas and its pretty much good to go now and this will be its first real test. We're doing drums, bass, vocals and acoustic guitar today and electric guitars and keys next week. I'll post some of the results here when I have some mixes done.

Sample Mix song

Hey guys, I just whacked together a quick mix using Throbber's sample pack, have a listen, I hope you like!

All I used was Ableton Live, all native effects, its just a quick mix, took about and hour total.

New Songs

Hey guys, got some new songs up, The top 4 songs in the playlist, including the original version of "The Sea", first take, on the day it was written, its rough but I prefer it. Theres also Leaving Song, Joke of Destiny (which was written today and played on my brothers little guitar) and Eden (on which additional guitar was played by my friend Michael Love). Why?

I've gotten to the stage lately where I hate everything I produce. I have been working on these songs for months now and I just can't get them to sound as I'd like. Why cant someone just show me a way of putting a mic in front of me and letting me play. I'll take care of everything else later, I just want to get the very basics sounding right. I'm finding it tough to mix them as headphones just dont give the same response as speakers, and speakers are nothing on monitors. I cant find a room that… Continue

Hi Ian,
Just another quick message... You were the only person I didn't hear back from about using your sample entry on the cover disc. As the deadline is today, I took the liberty of using it anyway. Music rights is an issue we take very seriously, but I figured you'd probably be more upset if yours was the only one left out! I hope you are happy with this decision and look forward to your entries in future competitions.
Cheers,
Alex

Hello from MTM!,
Thanks for entering the 1st sample pack competition. I'm just messaging each member who put up an entry to check you are happy for your track to be included on next months cover disc. Please let me know asap as I'm compiling the disc this week. We're aiming to get more and more entries for each competition and using the magazine should help gather interest. I hope to see you involved again in the next competition.

The 1st one was just a warm-up... now let's see what you can really do!

Cheers,
Alex (DVD Editor)

Thanks for the reply Ian!
Just got Ableton Live 7 Power (book) today so maybe I'll find some clarity in there..amazingly versatile program..are you using Rex files within Ableton? I'm not sure if there is a benefit (except for the effects!) since rewiring is possible..have to get going on this..
take care~Cheers~ Don

I plan on putting some up today. It's just gonna be guitar p;aying tho. Not my band. I might put some singing in there too. IDK yet =D

Hey Ian!
NICE job on the Remix! I just got Ableton Live 7 myself..amazing but not real big on the sequencer so far..may just use Reason4's sequencer and Rewire it..then things will move more quickly..have a question..are you using your Absynth 4 with Ableton? Mine causes huge conflicts and crashes Ableton everytime..Once I removed it from the VST folder..all is good again..any comments on this? Cheers~ Don

The new sample mix sounds good. Nice sounds and melodies and they go together well. You have an ear for it.
