And away I go...

Alright, so after a little work and some fiddling around with iWeb, I've managed to build something. The finished results are available for you all to see at www.mikehillier.me I've got a few future ideas that I'll be working on, including possibly putting up some finished Max/MSP creations in application form for you to download and play with. But first I'm going to have to finish some... on which note, I've been working on my kick drum synthesis engine, and while the plan obviously is to creat… Continue

Website contruction

I've decided to build a website to use as a means of promoting myself as an engineer - basically I want it to act as a sort of online CV. At the moment it's very much in an "alpha" state. I'm building it with iWeb, which is so easy i think my mother could use it. I've opted to put pages up linking to all of my MTM features, tutorials and reviews, and I've put up a list of credits for artists I've worked with, which I hope to expand with links to the bands themselves.
This is my first experience… Continue

Studio goings on.

I missed last week's Max for Live event at City Lit because I was called in to Metropolis to work on a session over the weekend. So I'll have to keep waiting with the rest of you guys to try out Max for Live when it's officially released. As it turns out the session was a very big one, with all four rooms at Metropolis in use by the same client all week. I'd love to tell you who it was, but I'd get in trouble, so I won't.
What I will tell you is that on Friday night the night receptionist was (a… Continue

Max/MSP, Ableton Live & The City Lit Open Day

Karina over at City Lit e-mailed me yesterday to let me know of an event they are putting on over at City Lit to coincide with the launch of Max for Live. As anyone who's been keeping score with me knows, I fell in love with Max at the start of the year thanks to a 10 week course at City Lit. So I will definitely be attending the event, in fact they've asked me to perform, but unless I can wrestle some performance into one of my patches I'm not really there yet. They're mostly studio tools, with… Continue

Thanks for the feedback Mike.

SAE is a bit steep for my pocket though they have some wonderful facilities across the globe. Visited the Byron Bay campus but found it too expensive. Will look into Alchemea.

Though I'm not really looking for a beginners 101 to mixing. Artistes that I produced and mixed for won MTV awards 2 years in a row for the Africa MTV awards. I'm looking for something that will make my mixes more competitive with the Pensado's as well as the Orton's of this world since I'm trying to break into the European and American market.

Plus, I find myself getting more and more work to mix on big SSL and Neve desks. That's gear that I cannot afford at the moment, but my clients are booking studios that have these great pieces of gear that I have no clue how to use :-(

Though as soon as I do my mix in the box, the clients come back and have a listen and are usually 80% satisfied.

Full sail is also a bit pricey and they don't have any intermediate courses that I could find online.

The search continues though!

Cheers!

Hi Mike?
Like your sound. I'm looking for an audio engineering school for someone with intermediate skills. I do my own mixing and production and would like to move my mixes to the next level.Any suggestions on good audio engineering schools that are affordable?

Thank you Mike for some very sweet comments about my tracks that gave me a cheery smile:)
However, anytime if you think that is... I need to do more work on my tracks or whatever, please, please feel free to let me know. After all I am listening to an expert and I really do adore your great musical soundscapes. Very inspirational indeed. A great feast for my ears.
Thanks again.
Take care and keep up the good work.

Dee.

Mike Hi,
I really loved all your tracks. The sounds and textures were amazing so atmospheric and surreal. I actually felt like I was floating in space at one point and what an incredible journey, fantastic tribute anyone would be proud of.
Although I am no expert. But my two ears loved them. Also one of the tracks reminded me of kraftwerk.
Thank you.

Hello from MTM!,
Thanks for entering the 1st sample pack competition. I'm just messaging each member who put up an entry to check you are happy for your track to be included on next months cover disc. Please let me know asap as I'm compiling the disc this week. We're aiming to get more and more entries for each competition and using the magazine should help gather interest. I hope to see you involved again in the next competition.

The 1st one was just a warm-up... now let's see what you can really do!

Cheers,
Alex (DVD Editor)
