About the track in the player

StudioNetComp_01 is a track created from the sample set available for download here: http://www.mtmstudionet.com/forum/topics/1st-sample-pack-for-the-mtm

I think I only ended up using 3 of the samples from that pack to put this short track together after messing around with them.

It is a rough and ready edit, only 1 minute long and I wanted something that sounded a bit dirty
This is my very first track with my new Logic Studio and new Headphones. Did not use studio monitors while working on this track. It does sound ok on my headphones but I have no idea how it will sound on your sound system so please feel welcome to post feedback.

Profile Information

How would you categorise your musical output?
FInally started to put a few sounds together for StudioNet Competitions. I am hoping that I'll keep going (read 'find time') to not stop and make more music from now on.
What are your favourite pieces of studio hardware?
From the past I really enjoyed the EMU64 Sampler, the Yamaha SY77 and the Yamaha Pro-Mix

Now I am using a MAC Pro and Logic Pro 8 and other soft instruments therefore my favourite hardware at the moment is the MAC but there is some hardware synth I would like to own, maybe in the future
Which Digital Audio Workstation application do you use?
Logic Studio Pro 8
What's your favourite digital instrument?
I have to say you can get good sounds out of the plug ins bundled with Logic and in a way you can consider Logic to be an instrument when seen from high above including wave editing, sound shaping with processing plug, effects, etc... I have a few soft-instruments but I need to use them more to make my mind up
Who are your musical/production influences or heroes?
All sorts, I listen to all sorts and I'm intereted in most genres as long as it feels creative.
Please tick box to permit us to quote your contributions in Music Tech Magazine.

Another move, more time away from music

It is that time again (for me because I have already done it a few times) where I am going to move home.

Started sorting out boxes etc... sadly it means I have to dismantle my music set up (keyboard, monitors, computer, acoustic panels, etc...). Then eventually put it all back together at the new place. I guess this will take me 2 or 3 weeks away from Logic but it has to be done.

I will probably be a few days off-line (no internet) in about a week time while I get the new place connected, hope… Continue

Metering and Mastering

For the next week or so I feel I should learn more about mastering, using appropriate metering software, spectrum analsys and all that cool stuff. Feel free to add some comments with what you use for metering and to analyse your tracks when mastering, I would like to look into options and make sure I have at least some half decent tool to use.

Let's see how I get on :)

Ok,
Logic offers what looks to be a well featured Metering tool, the MultiMeter. Some part of this can be called up ind… Continue

DAW season?

This is good I think, there have been two new DAWs announced in the past week or so. Or at least that I noticed.
One is the new software offering from Propellerheads: Record which maybe focuses on audio recording and time stretching.
http://www.propellerheads.se/products/record/
Release: Worldwide on September 9, 2009 at a suggested retail price of $299 USD / €299 EUR.

The other is from Presonus; this one I'm interested in, at least to… Continue

Nice to see things warming up with the MTM StudioNet Competition

I feel quite happy with how this second round of StudioNet Competition is going,
- there are still 3 days to go and we already have more tracks submitted than what we had the first time around.
- also, we had entries from members that did not enter the first time around, so it is not only the usual suspects :) But more! All good!!! :)
- we had some entries from some of the partecipants from round one... great!
- I really thought I would not have had the time to make a track myself but a couple o… Continue

Hi? Thanks for adding me. Looking forward to not only contributing, but learning a lot from this community.
Incidentally, I was wondering if you know any good audio engineering schools out there. Been producing and mixing for about 9 years. Haven't done too badly as some of the artistes I've worked with have won MTV awards( our versions at least- The MTV Africa Music Awards or MAMA's as they're called) 2 years in a row. But I really feel that my mixes need to move to the next level in order for my music to cross over to a wider market.
Any suggestions.

PS: I'm a self taught producer engineer. No formal training whatsoever!

Thanks so much for the official reception. I don't feel as confident operating in this cyber world as I feel in the studio, but I've decided it's time to network a little, especially as I try to assimilate these digital recording worlds. I'm hoping this is more of an inclusive community rather than a competitive one, like the VSPlanet community in which I used to knock around.
Cheers to all
