brunk podcasts

brunk - a room with a fire

itunes pic
This new brunk podcast is a quiet and melodic one... It contains some slower songs from former brunk recordings, and various samples from movies and other sources. The snippets of a man reading in French, that's Albert Camus himself, reading from his famous classic 'L'étranger'... Two movies from witch I used samples in between songs are 'Naked Lunch' (David Cronenberg, 1991) and 'the Invisible Man' (H.G. Wells, 1933), both exeptional movies; and also one I don't remember (let me know if you recognise it...).
This is the tracklist of the songs:
1. untitled (taken from a mini cd I made for some friends & family, 2007) 2. low profile (from 'so lo so fi', 2005) 3. Eyes/Stars (from 'Wilco Sowjet', 2001) 4. untitled (cfr. 1) 5. no pun intended (from 'a simple guide', 2005) 6. Sunday Evening (from 'Locus Communis', 1998) 7. frisbee (from 'sept 2003', 2003)
Have fun with this episode... b

Karen Eliot - live at Kinky Star Club

itunes pic
This is a live recording of Karen Eliot at the Kinky Star Club (Ghent, 6 october 2007). Karen Eliot is an improvisational/experimental project of Luther Blisset and myself (aka He Who Ha Ha). Karen Eliot doesn't have any rules; we meet now and then to play an entirely improvised session. We both like sound experiments, drones, noise, soundscapes and such but at the same time we're somehow influenced by aspects of postrock / stonerrock / indie etc... For more Karen Eliot check the Karen Eliot myspace page: www.myspace.com/wearekareneliot . Enjoy! :-)

Profile Information

How would you categorise your musical output?
A search for musical freedom and personal expression that doesn't want to be categorised; mostly lo-fi and slightly experimental, intrumental music based on guitars, loops, samples, noises and soft synths; sometimes rather noisy, distorted and more avant-garde; sometimes kitch, sometimes more complexly layered songs... however I always like a touch of melody and some melancholy, I prefer something simple and honest above a 'product' and I consider mistakes often to be a lot more interesting and beautiful than something that's perfectly streamlined.
What are your favourite pieces of studio hardware?
Guitars (acoustic, electric, bass), PodXT live, Boss GT6, ...
and presonus firestudio audio interface. Besides that I like to use everything that can be a source of sounds, not necessarely the way it's intended to be used :-)
Which Digital Audio Workstation application do you use?
Cubase 4
What's your favourite digital instrument?
Malström (Reason 3.0)
Who are your musical/production influences or heroes?
ryonkt, Molloy and his bike, Thurston Moore, John Frusciante, Fapy Lafertin, Bill Frisell, field recordings, Merzbow, Pinback, Mauro Pawlowski, DJ Krush, Mogwai, Buckethead, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Squarepusher, Koen De Cauter, Meshuggah, John Abercrombie, Dominic Miller, Low, Tom Waits, underground lo-fi homerecorded music, Sloy, The Black Heart Procession, Derek Bailey, Lightning Bolt, The Faint, Marc Ribot, django-style gypsy swing, Mr. Bungle, Eric Dolphy, Richard Bona, Elliott Smith, Taraf de Haïdouks, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, etc etc etc...

Tadaa!

brunk says hello :-)
I'm new here and really interested in other opinions, and curious to discover other peoples music and views. This seems to be a fine place for doing so since it's not (yet) as big as myspace and everyone here seems to be very dedicated :-)
I've got some other projects and songs to, if you're interested you can check them out at:
www.brunk.be (homepage of brunk, not totally finished yet though)
