Profile Information

How would you categorise your musical output?
Quirky digital synthesis with acoustic elements that mix samples, synthesizers and live recordings.

I would like to find applications for my music in the hospital and aged care environments. One use would be as a complementary therapy to assist people with anxiety or mental disorders. The type of music I am making at the moment is not yet appropriate for that type of application, but I continue to develop in that direction.

Music and sound has such a profound effect on people's moods and emotions that I think it is important to use that wisely.
What are your favourite pieces of studio hardware?
Yamaha MSP7's, Maton Acoustic Guitar, Edirol UA-25 interface and a RHODE NT-2A mic.

I have a ROLAND SH201 and would like to get a a keyboard like the YAMAHA MM6 or a Korg R3 Synthesizer / Vocoder for fun...

Saving to get the Yamaha subwoofer when I understand bass a little better...
Which Digital Audio Workstation application do you use?
Cakewalk SONAR 7 PRODUCER EDITION, Project 5 v2, Kinetic.
What's your favourite digital instrument?
Z3ta2, Rapture, Dimension Pro, VELOCITY, drum machines, free SOFT-SYNTHS - ZEBRA.
Who are your musical/production influences or heroes?
Jack Johnson, The Beatles, Electro, music for relaxation, classical music, MusicTech Magazine and the technology that makes it possible.

I have spent a lifetime studying music, but have only recently begun studying production techniques.

Sound for Relaxation

Fairly new to computers, I've been working out how to program soft synths and make drum rhythms etc. for the last three years. I do these recordings for fun and since I stopped playing in covers bands I have more energy for my own music. I also work in a hospital as a nurse.

Thanks for your comments and tips on reording. I can use all of them I can get. My recordings are pretty much just me hooking up and hitting record without doing much to them yet. I intend to redo them all once I get better at recording techniques and such, but it was fun to at least get the songs out of my head and recorded to something for once. =)

Well I never thought I hear my name mentioned in the same sentence as Miles Davis or Portishead!! I must be doing something right.
Thanks for listening to my stuff, I am planning to get more involved in the Studionet site so I will hopefully be putting a few more tracks up soon and listening to other peoples tracks.

Take care,
Dave.

many, many studies have shown music as a therapy to be HUGELY succesful in rehab and treatment of autism. Also believe it or not the deaf (BEAT). I also have seen studies showing that mixing and playing music triggers nueron to fire in the same way a deep meditators brain would fire. I also believe that music can really help Alzheimers paitents, not in a curative way, but in a way that a smell can put in a new reality. For example my mother passed when I was twelve. When we packed away her stuff, the clothing with her perfume just destroyed me. Filled my reality with MEMORY.

Good luck
