Lewis G. Edwards SFS - Sync Plop Sample To Use In Track + Simians Syncing Track Up For Listening and Review

Hello All, Yes, i know it is quite soon for an entry of a track, because i said it would not be for a few weeks. Well for one, I made and finished the track in 2 days. So i got a little impatient. So here it is. The sample is a single Sync Plop. Thats right, hardly a second of audio plopping. This is the first sample that is going to start off the Sample Freq Suite. It is available for download in 320kbps mp3 format on my profile Also to let you know what I have done, i have also posted up… Continue

Lewis G. Edwards 6+4 Rules of Sample Freq Suite

Hello all, Here they are. The Rules for the Sample Freq Suite. Please do follow these rules. They are basic, but still it is worth looking through, just so then you do know. 1. NEVER use anything other than the sample(s) that is given out. Remember this is a test for oneself in the field of using samples, not for cheating. So any use of any built in Synths and pre-sets are out of the question. 2. You can use any means necessary to play with the sample(s); ie:- using a sampler (Kontakt, MOTU M… Continue

Lewis G. Edwards Sample Freq Suite (just heads up on the happenings)

Hello all, As you can tell the name has changed a little bit. I thought of the Freq thing when i was in a taxi going home. Plus it will go with the tasks that will arise very soon. This is just a little post to say how the first test is going with myself, which will then be put on to you very soon. Well for one I could not stop laughing, why? Because this first test, is quite a big test. But very very fun. Plus i was thinking 'how the hell am I, going to this?' But everything is cool now, an… Continue

Lewis G. Edwards Sample Freaks Suite

Hello all, I have had a great idea. This is an idea that will test peoples skills both in music, but also for how much there mind and the such can take. I am going to start a 'Sample Freaks Suite' blog and competition. At this moment, and possibly until it stops. There will not be any prizes, so i do not know why I have put competition, so ignore that. The object is to push your mind and creativity in the field of Music. In which the title says, it will be based around Sampling. In the ne… Continue

Lewis G. Edwards 2 Minute Sample of New Track

Hello all, Just to let everyone know that i have stuck up a new track. But it is a sample of the track i made. The one reason being is that the full track is 63 minutes long. It is a Techno/Noise/Ambient/Dance/Weird project that i was working on for a few days. The synths and sounds are all made by myself from sampling sounds from my flat. Such as metal ball rolling around in a sink, or bathroom light turning on. I used a Sony minidisk recorder, then put the samples in Pro Tools, then bounci… Continue

Mattias Olsson And so it is done.

This last Saturday I had my first 40th birthday party at the remarkable bar/restaurant that is Miss Yans and I can dare to say that it was a one of the weirdest and funniest nights so far. A great crowd, a strange setting and wonderful live music. Perfect. The line up for this first 40th birthday party was… 1. Martin Ekman 2. Harry C 3. Charlee Porter 4. Lisa o Piu 5. Zqaty We had a backline set up under the moose head including the mellotron and a handful of percussion instruments so people sa… Continue

rock duvall new kind of kick - the cramps

today would have been paul's forty-seventh if he hadn't drunk himself to death last year. i still miss the mad bastard, even now. for twenty-eight years, he was a non-negotiable in my life. from the moment i met him and we hit it off, til i got the phonecall to say his body'd turned up, he was always there; part mate, part raging haemorrhoid. on a cheerier note, i got some feedback on "play for today" last week; one downloader in particular describing it as "darkness". the same person also enq… Continue

rock duvall i'm the leader of the gang (i am) - gary glitter

one thing i worry about (along with the fillings and the tired, sagging breasts) is that my work's too spartan. listening to other musics on here, i'm struck by the fact i seem to be the only one embracing noise - as an end in itself, at any rate. i dug out novatron's "new rising sun" again last week. it's one of the barest - and greatest - guitar records i've ever heard. oh yeah, and i've fallen in love with it all over again. it's great for first thing in the morning; the perfect soundtrack… Continue

Mattias Olsson Änglagård repressings.

Last night we had a meeting with my old band Änglagård to try to decide about how we are to proceed with re pressings of our old albums. We released two studio albums in the early 90s and then we put out a live album (of course). These albums have been out of print for a long time and now we are trying to decide in what format and in what kind of constellation the business side of things will take form… We have a couple of different alternatives up in the air but for once we actually hav… Continue

rock duvall my face - john foxx

i finally took my old laptop somewhere that'll fit a new motherboard. once repaired or replaced, it'll be pressed into service, making recordings of my face. i've very much been focussing on recording soundscapes (and textures) for months now. to the exclusion of everything else. partly, this has come about through sound levels where we live. the cuprinol girls, when not discolouring themselves to shades with names like "kirkdale pub-torching" and "petrol-tanker driver's recurrent screaming ni… Continue

rock duvall fear is a man's best friend - john cale

ah, the studio, she was rebuilt in the living room! so once again, i'm all ergonomic and that, as they say in scotland. it's funny how a differently arranged working space affects what i come up with. being able to lay things out over a wider area seems to be midwifing pieces with more space in them. this week, i've completed a long-ish piece (working title: "toy boy"). that's the adult/industrious bit. on a play/fiddling level, i've been faffing about with the controller keyboard and those f… Continue

rock duvall slogun - >>spk<<

i've been listening to the auteurs, if that's the right word, this week. probably "wallowing" would be more accurate! i only ever saw them the once, in 1993, and through the magic that is p-2-p, i've picked up some cracking live recordings. so much so that it even brought about a teensy wee collision between amazon.co.uk and my visacard. of course, as everybody knows, this free downloading jamboree is destroying sales of compact discs, so i was probably wrong to have spent good money on "das c… Continue

Ardy Void BUSY BUSY BUSY

I joined MTM network recently. I spent a few days loading some old tracks on, quickly building a new one and posting the lyrics to my newest song. I also posted the backing beat but, as was rightly pointed out, it sounded unfinished. Altogether I've written roughly 7 songs. I wouldn't say any of them are going to be number ones, the lyrics are fairly simple and I don't consider myself a great performer yet... Given only a handful of people have heard them (live shows for my friends), I would lik… Continue

Ian Maleney the joys of remastering

hey all, i recently unearthed some old song i recorded months bask and was shocked at the terribele quality if the sound. i went on a big remastering binge over the course of a night and i made dramatic improvements all round. its amazing how much you can learn in 6 months or so, vigourously rereading music tech issues to enhance your knowledge! i couldn't remix the songs as all i had were the mp3 files, a defect of using demo software only. the songs have just a guitar, voice, some strings and… Continue

Dwoogie Acoustic II

The Chain Tape Collective is a loose group of experimental musicians who come together to create specific projects as conceived by their members. Each project has certain rules, and there are only a certain number of places as the total length of a project is limited by the length of a single audio CD - so one project might have 6 members each producing 12-minute tracks, while another might have 12 6-minute tracks. rock duvall back to nature - magazine

when Madame R decided we should move here, one of the selling points was that i'd have a room set aside as my studio - what Virginia Woolf might have termed "a locked ward of one's own". within a year, it was less a state-of-the-art sonic sculpture facility and more a nature preserve. i'd noticed that various bits of kit seemed not to be working. my controlling keyboard didn't. the qwerty keyboard that came with the carillon upped and died, necessitating a trip to tesco. "damn your black hear… Continue

Mattias Olsson Murfed glockenspiels and gamelan baritones.

Yesterday I worked on two different pieces. The first one was a mix for RRR, your favourite accordion, drums and vocal trio and then I did some work on a new Opium Cartel track called Picker girl. The Mix went quite well even though I think there are some small details that need to be sorted out and some level tweaking to be done. It is kind of difficult to mix accordion and drums in a way so that it sounds somewhat hefty or chunky. We’ll see…I posted a roughmix at the RRR myspace page. It shou… Continue

After using Sonar for around 5 years now i have finally decided to Swap back to Cubase.
