Hey dude,

Been listening to ur latest tracks u got up here..I totally agree with Kashif, leave the MPC alone for a bit and try usin Reason or something similar, I use FLStudio8 and Reason 4 they are great programs and easy to use.(flstudio8 online only cost me £100 and was def worth it) .
If u cant bear to part with the MPC then start with some real simple loops, nice and short-4bars. As u wanna make Hip Hop, most of it is in 4 bar loops (check out 9th wonder, RZA, Premmo etc). I suggest loading up a kick, snare, open hat and hi hat (maybe a ride or clap to mix it up a bit aswell). Mess about for a few mins to get a feel for a beat, but when doing this have the MPC running so you can see when the loop ends etc, but dont record yet. Once ur happy with the beat u got goin on, then start recording.
Now when I first started usin an MPC I recorded a bit at a time, I would always start with the kick first, then once I was happy with that and it sounded half descent I would record the snare, hi hat etc all one at a time. Okay so now I would have a beat with a few different sounds going on. Are u aware of the step edit function on the MPC?? if not check out the manual. Basically I found this feature vhandy when I first started out, once u got ur basic beat press mode and pad14/step edit. This then brings up an all events page and shows u which pad u hit, at what time in the loop you hit it, the duration of each hit, etc. What I used to do look up all my kicks, and just basically tweaked them about till they all sounded on time, then i would repeat this with all the other events i,e snares hats etc..Just check out the manual its a piece of piss once you done it a few times.. This process is very basic and kinda does take a bit of time but its def worth it.

I just put up a track called Nice'N'Simple, its very very basic check it out and hopefully it will point u in the right direction. I made it using my MPC and Reason 4.

If you need any help just get at me.

Peace

Nate dude,
How you doing? I think you have guts, if I were you I would have stopped doin music and started something else. Listen I can't help you, even nobody can help you, only you can help yourself.
You asked me, ok, I would suggest you to stop messing with the mpc first for about a week for two. Than start using your hands to play the beats, yeah man, you have to get your hands dirty. For that, play some cool RnB song, lets say you like Timbaland, play "Give It To Me" by Timbaland in a low volume on your stereo. Get some wooden table or desk and start playing the same beat with your hands on it. Practice this daily with your fav. songs for hours n hours. That is because when you're making beats/music you should know when you're going off and out of sync. After few weeks you will notice wow, you can play any drum beat with your hands, you pretend to be a drummer or something, but wait playing drums is a bit different. Than ummmm mpc? no, get some music making software e.g. Reason 4, its a great software man you should have it. Install it and make beats using Redrum Drum Computer (its in the Reason). Use MTM samples, your own samples to create different drum patterns n grooves with Redrum. If you find your self successful with this procedure than take out your baby MPC and kick errybody's ass, yo!

Hope that helps, and keep in mind "only you can help your self".

Thanks,
Kashif

Nate,
Man, you are something else dude.

Would you like some help to make some improvements ?

Head over to my page and have a listen to "Experiment Three", I think the track is a good example for you.
I think it sort of is the kind of thing you might be trying to do.

Let me know, we are not here to beat you down, we are here to help you if you want it.

Let's get you on the right track with your audioage.

Thanks,
Throbber.

Hi Nate,
Wow, what is going on here mate, you having a laugh ?

Sorry man, but this has to be said, someone has to tell you, it's only fair.

This has got to be the worst "music" I have ever encountered in my life, it's like listening to epileptic audio or audio tourettes syndrome.

If you are on drugs, you need to lay off them mate, If not then you need to get on some. LOL.

This thing you have is really hard work to listen to, it's like a punishment.
I can almost figure out what you are all about with this craziness, but, so near yet so far.

The samples are all distorted, I could go on and on, but, somehow I think it will fall on deaf ears. Sorry.

Do you want me to lie ?

I bet even you can't listen to your own stuff for very long.
Baffled !!!

Nice grooves nathaniel - where did you get the vocals - is this your own vocalist as you have a nice retro merge going on with these tracks.

Reminds me of some of the late night pirate radio' r &b/streetsoul and rap grooves i used to play in the early hours' back in the late 80's

Nate,

Work on some dubs. Leave the vocals to one side. Once you get your loops working then bring your vocals back to the table. Chopping them down to short single comments instead of a full chorus.

Don't take this the wrong way Nate but at the moment your beats are out and you've got too much going on.

Remember... Back2Basics

Dude listened to ur new track, def a big improvement over the others, try finding a sample of just one instrument on its own (guitar, piano etc).

Try putting a bit of reverb on the drums using the effects in the MPC, it will make them sound brighter.

Ive got another 4 tracks Im working on at the moment, so when they are sorted Ill put them up. I also just put up a demo of a track Im doing using some chopped string samples from an old funk record. Its really basic, but have a listen and it might point you in the right direction..or if you think its s**t then ignore it.

Peace Crease..
